Summary:
|
Based upon the Board of Education’s observation of the detrimental impact of vaping on our students and the community, it supports actions to restrict the marketing of and access to vaping products by students. To that end, the Board on June 11, 2020, approved the engagement of national legal counsel and its participation to pursue the class action litigation against Juul Labs, Inc., a manufacturer of e-cigarettes and delegated to the Superintendent or her designee the authority to make all decisions necessary in the litigation, and keep the Board apprised of these activities. The attorneys have now reached a settlement with Juul Labs, Inc., on behalf of the participants in the class action litigation, including Pueblo School District No. 60. To share in the proceeds of the settlement, the parties must elect to approve the settlement and sign a release.

Recommendation:

The Board of Education approves the District’s participation in the
settlement and authorizes each of the officers of the Board and the
Superintendent to sign and submit a release and to take any other
necessary action to participate as described in the above March 14,
2023 Board materials.
