Summary:
|
For the second straight year, the Pueblo East Eagles Wrestling Team captured the Colorado 4A State Championship team title at Ball Arena in Denver on February 18, 2023. Weston Dalton captured his third state title, and Manuel Amaro and Lawrence Herberger were both runners-up. Theodore Romero, from Central High School, earned the 215lb State Championship Unified Wrestler. Theo pinned his opponent in the first period. Pat Laughlin, with more than 30 years dedicated to the sport, once again was named 4A Coach of the Year.
Additional Eagle placers included Julian Espinoza (120), Sullivan Sully DeHerrera (157) and Sebastian Freeman (175) -- earned third-place finishes, with Niko Fernandez (126) finishing fourth and Tatum Rivera (138) fifth.
